Hi, welcome to the Daily Spin. My name is Steve. I'm the owner of inlineskates.com and we're talking today with Mike Powell from K2 - straight in from Seattle headquarters. Thanks for joining us, Mike. Thanks for having me. And we're going to talk about the K2 Charm X Pro. This is a really nice skate for girls from K2. And before I get started here, I want to explain that we have a green skate here and we're working with a green background, a... what do you call it? Green screen. Green screen. Right. Green screen so when I hold this skate up it's going disappear a little bit. See that? So, anyways. That's a little weight reduction right there. Yeah, there you go.

So, let's talk about the skate. This is the third model up in the line from the K2 line for the kid's skates. It's got some really cool features on it. I'll give you the skate, Mike. Let's start with the adjustability. How does that work? Well, it's 5 full sizes of adjustability so the skate's going to last more than one season. And it's done with the push of the button so you've got your push button here, push, slide this in, five full sizes, so you want to buy it at the smallest size that fits your kid's foot and you let it grow and it's going to last... And you can keep feeding them and not have to worry that you'll have to buy them new skates. Exactly. Okay, there you go. So, lacing system. So, what's cool about this skate is it's got a great lacing system on them, you got the Speedlace, the Velcro Strap and the ratchet at the top. Can you show us how all those work? Yep, so you've got your Velcro Strap here, your ratchet that's going to close your cuff and give you a lot of support up top and the most exciting feature on this is this Speedlace System here. So, what this does is when you get your kid foot in the skate, either you or your child, can just grab this and pull on this string here, there's a locking mechanism. It's going to keep this skate really snug throughout the foot. And when you're on the skate trail, if you need to tighten up the skate while your skating, you know, with a traditional lace, that's another four minute process for a kid or a parent where this is really just lean down, pull this Speedlace up and you're ready to go. And a tight fit's really critical for support and not getting blisters, being able to get that direct energy transfer too. Exactly. Exactly. You want a performance fit.

So this skate, unlike the models below it, have this unique feature called a Hi-Lo frame and a Hi-Lo wheel system. Can you explain what that's all about? Yes. So we put a youth Hi-Lo frame on here and so pretty much what that is is we have 72mm in front, 76mm in back. 76mm wheels. Yeah, so you've got the smaller wheels in the front, bigger ones in the back. Think of a funny car in the way that it sits. And what that does is it kind of gives you that ramp angle where it's really going to get you in the proper skating position. It's also going to give you a lower center of gravity which makes it easier for kids to learn how to skate and it just makes skating a little bit more fun. But it doesn't tilt the kid forward, right? It just allows the natural angle of the heel is higher than wheels to accept a larger wheel in back. Exactly. And that gives them stability but a little more speed and a little more power. Yes. Stability and maneuverability, I mean, when you mix these two wheel sizes up you get the best of both worlds.

Okay. Anything we forgot? You know the Softboot is built different than skates were a decade ago. Not K2's but other brands. We build our skates like a performance piece of footwear so we're building an athletic shoe for you right here that really is a performance piece of footwear that fits well and keeps kids comfortable on the trail. It's comfortable but the exo-skeleton still gives them that support and performance they need. Exactly. Okay. And describe for us the ideal customer for this skate. You know, it's you know, from that first time skater to a skater who's had another pair of skates but really didn't have a real pair of skates. This is a quality pair of skates that'll get that new skater or that person in their second pair of skates really falling in love with inline skating. The kids version of a mom and dad's skate. Exactly. Well, thanks, Mike. Thank you. And there you have it. That's the K2 Charm X Pro. Thanks for joining us on this addition of the Daily Spin.
