Hi, welcome to the Daily Spin. I'm Steve, the owner of inlineskates.com, and you are? The guru. No, my name is Mike Powell and I'm from K2 Skates. Thanks for joining us, Mike. Thanks for having me. And in front of us we've got the top-of-the-line women's skate from K2. This is the K2 VO2 90 Boa and we've got a lot to talk about here. This is the Cadillac and Ferrari for women. It's comfortable. It's performance- oriented and it's fast. But the Boa is what I think, really sets this skate apart from any other skate on the market in this class. Can you tell us about the Boa and what's so special about it? Well, the Boa closure system is really a revolutionary closure system used across a bunch of different sports but K2 is the only one using it on inline skates and I think you'll see how easy this thing is to use. I'll demonstrate very quickly. All you need to do to get into a Boa skate is you pull this Boa dial out and you pull the tongue and that allows you to get inside of your skate.

Once you have your foot in, you position your tongue so it's how you like and you take the Boa and you give it a little push and twist on the Boa dial. What it's doing, it's pulling this cable and it's actually tightening your foot from the bottom up so you're getting a very even fit throughout the skate. There isn't a better fit found on inline skates when you combine the K2 Softboot with the Boa closure system. And what's nice about it, is as you skate for a while the, your foot's going to kind of loosen up a little bit. Blood kind of flows out of it. The skate loosens up and you can actually tighten this on the fly, you don't have to sit down on the ground to re-lace your skates, right? One or two cranks and boom. Yeah, it's just lean down and one click and you're good to go. So, also this has got that Vortech Ventilation System in it, can you tell us about that? Yeah, so you know skaters for a long time would say sweaty feet are not fun. They weigh down the skate a little bit, they have you sliding around in your skate and we wanted to solve that problem. What we did, we created was the Vortech Ventilation System. It's a series of channels and vents throughout the skate so you've got some in-ports up in front, some exhaust ports in the back, and you got channels running through the base of the skate. It's going to force air through that as you skate, put it out the back of the skate, it's technology that you can see, technology that you can feel. And it keeps your foot nice and dry. And in addition, that mesh on the side, the yellow mesh on the side, is actually like a little screen, there's nothing behind it so that allows additional air to move in and out of the skates to keep you dry and comfortable. Exactly. Okay, so let's move down to the lower part of the skate. This is the performance side of it. We've got an aluminum frame, we've got a good wheel, we've got good bearing, talk about those.

So, we've got a nice, long aluminum frame which is going to roll very smooth and be stable on any trail that you're on. We've got a 90mm wheel and an ILQ 9 Classic Plus bearing - what that does, it creates a smooth, even roll. If you want to go fast you can do that because these bearings will get you to whatever speed you want but it's just really for a smooth, even roll and a nice, stable skate. So, the key to the best performance in an inline skate is having that direct connection from your knee all the way down to the wheel, correct? Exactly. So, with a tight boot, with the Boa and the other closure systems on there, with the aluminum frame it's going to be stiff and not lose power and the high end bearing and the high end wheel, that's how you get the best performance, that's what gets you that nice, smooth, silky kind of a roll. And, for women who want a good skate but don't want to go super fast, is that a problem with this skate? No, I mean, you can go any speed on this skate. Right, it just gives you that nice more fluid feel, not necessarily going super fast all the time. Yeah. I mean if you want to stay in second or third gear on this skate, it's no problem. It will go to fifth. And it's got a brake still too. Oh yeah, it does.

So, there's something else I think you want to talk about on this women's skate. There is. It's the pink ribbon you see here. It's something that's been a part of the K2 family since 2000. It's the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and a portion of all K2 sales go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. To date, we've given about 2 million dollars to them so something we're proud to do and something that makes a difference. So, describe for us the perfect customer for this skate. It's for the serious skater who knows what they're doing on skates. They've been through a pair of our fitness skates, they love skating, they realize skating is probably going to be the training, the training tool for them. They're going to go out and burn calories on the trail on their skates and this is the skate to do it on. Perfect. Well, there you have it, that's the K2 VO2 90 Boa from K2. Yes. That's a little redundant. K2 slash K2. I think we get it. I don't know if they get but we get it. We get it. Boa. K2. Thanks, Mike. Thank you. Say goodbye. See ya. Hi, mom. Thanks for joining us on the Daily Spin.
