Big Apple Roll
A weekend filled with partying, fun, skating, and meeting new people. Does that sound like your kind of fun? What about a relaxing weekend rolling around the one of the greatest cities in the United States, New York City? Well whether you are the outgoing party person, or the laid back casual skater, New York City’s 7th annual Big Apple Roll is the event for you.
Originating in 2003, the Big Apple Roll is an expedition of New York City on wheels. The event is put together by non-profit organization, The Empire Skate Club, and it is all about having a good time while enjoying the best of New York City’s nightlife, landmarks, and most well-known sites.
This year’s Big Apple Roll skate will begin on Friday, August 14, 2009, and span the course of 3 days ending on Sunday, August 16, 2009. The tour will begin each day from the Skyline Hotel, the official hotel of the event, located at 10th Avenue and 49th Street in New York City. If you do not plan on staying at the hotel for the event, you can meet at the hotel to join other participants prior to the beginning of the skate.
Whether you’re a local of the area or just a skate enthusiast looking to meet new people and tour a tremendous city, the Big Apple Roll offers something for everyone. It is worth noting that the event is designed for intermediate level skaters and above who are capable of handling street skating (we are talking New York City traffic here).
Among the areas that you will skate through are: Greenwich Village, Little Italy, China Town, Soho, Tribeca, Central Park, and of course Times Square. Participation in the event is free, although all participants must sign a Liability Waiver prior to skating.
If you’re looking for a great way to meet fellow skaters, or possibly reconnect with some old friends, the Big Apple Roll offers a combination of skating, entertainment, and dining.
If you attend this event, please free to head back here and share your experiences with us.
