Comments about K2 F.I.T. 80 Inline Skates 2014:

Bought these to skate alongside young kids on bikes. Used to blade regularly over 10 years ago - decided to get back into it with an entry level skate. These blades are a good price, and look very nice - in fact they don't seem that much different from higher-priced models. In use, it's another story. My first blades were higher-end Rollerblade* brand, boot type, with multiple buckles. These K2's *do* offer less ankle support, but for me that's a non-issue. What is the strangest thing (for me) with these skates an unnatural feel with the centerline of the wheel assembly. To me, it just seems "off". I get an inward 'slant' to the wheels - I normally skate with my feet reasonably close together. I experimented in the garage and found that the only time these felt "right" was with my feet two-feet apart. Then it hit me - this might be actually a design consideration, since many newb's keep their feet further apart. I have no idea. I hope I can return them for a different model. The build quality is good, the boot design is nice, they strap up easily enough, but after 1 hour on these bad boys the best thing about them is getting them *off* of my feet. I would love to try some of the higher level K2 skates, since I have wide feet and the K2 boot seems to be more "wide foot friendly" than other brands. Also, these skates are *not* designed for maximum efficiency. They seem to drag quite a bit up inclines - then again I had ABEC7 bearings and harder wheels on my older blades. If you're new and these don't hurt your feet they would be a great value. If you have a bit more experience, I say skip on the FIT 80 and spend a bit more money than I did on these.

  • Q:

Is there any sizing difference in this skate that I need to be worried about? I wear a 13 and I don't want to have to return them if they don't fit.

      A:

The K2 FIT 80 inline skates will fit true to shoe size. If you wear a 13.0, you should order a 13.0 in this skate for an optimal fit both now and once the skate breaks in.

  • Q:

What skate could you recommend for someone over 200 pounds and less then two hundred dollars.

Instead of the K2 FIT 80 skates, which have a composite (plastic) frame, I would definitely recommend one of the other models that has a metal frame of some type. The Rollerblade Macroblade 84's or the K2 FIT 84 BOA's would both be excellent options for a heavier skater under the $200 price point.

  • Q:

what is tec composite? and do plastic frames wear out quickly? should i be looking for metal or aluminium frames?

      A:

The Tec-Composite frames on the K2 FIT 80 skates will be a durable, hard plastic frame. Generally speaking for newer or recreational skaters the plastic frames will not be a bad option. They only wear down quicker for either heavier (200 lbs+) skaters or those putting more abuse (jumps, tricks, etc) on their skates.

How do I switch the brake from the right boot to the left boot?

      A:

You will need to use an Allen wrench to remove the brake axle and then pull the brake housing from the right K2 FIT 80 skate. From there you should be able to attach it to the left skate.

With a TEC Composite frame, I would not recommend anyone over 175 lbs use the K2 FIT 80 skates.
