So I am combing over the internet looking for something fun to do and I come across skating in New York City. Put on by the Wednesday Night Skate organization this event runs every Wednesday from the first one in April to the last one in October. This event is totally 100% free and anyone can join in at any time. This event is a great way to exercise, explore New York City and make lots of new friends that share similar interests.
The Wednesday night skate leaves at 8pm so typically skaters arrive 15-30 minutes early to put their inline skates and protective gear on and get ready to roll. This is a two hour skate that has a different course every Wednesday. There are several rest stops on the journey that allows you to sit and relax and make new friends. Overall the routes on this skate total in 12 miles.
All skaters of any level are welcome to participate in the Wednesday night skate. On any given week there are between 40 and 80 people that take part in this fun activity, with a few outings that had over 100 people skating along. In the event of inclement weather this wonderful event does get canceled as it’s not wise, nor safe to skate in the rain.
The Wednesday Night Skate has been organized by a group of experienced skaters that volunteer to promote the event and make sure everything runs smoothly. This group is completely independent and not affiliated with any other groups or organizations.
Grab your skates and protective gear and head on down to the Wednesday Night Skate in New York City.
